Hi, everyone. I’m a freelance journalist in the U.S., looking into how Open Sanctions data might be used in a non-violent civil resistance (NVCR) campaign to either bring down a dictator, fight against corruption, etc. If you have any suggestions about a person or agency that’s using Open Sanctions in that manner, I’d love to hear from you.
My emails are: joel@joelprestonsmith.com and joelprestonsmith@gmail.com
Brief Bio:
I’ve been a journalist for about 30 years, focused on social justice, the environment, militarism and human rights. I’ve worked as a first responder and/or journalist in the United States, Honduras, Rwanda, Iraq, Gaza, and the West Bank. I’m a Firefighter II in southern West Virginia in the U.S., with technical rescue certifications in Vehicle Rescue, Rope Rescue, and Water Rescue. I’m also an American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED instructor.
My documentary photography is in the permanent collection of the Houston Museum of Fine Art, and in six books, including my book of photos and essays on the Iraq War: “Night of a Thousand Stars and Other Portraits of Iraq” (Nazraeli Press, 2006, nominated for the Oregon Book Award in 2007 for nonfiction).
I wish I could share more, but this site only allows users to post two links.
Thanks for considering my query.
